SA Chapter Report
Our collaboration with members of the Athenaeum is going very well. At the December meeting, Prof. Maciej Henneberg and his journalist collaborator, Jack Schofield, presented the argument of their second book (just published in the United States) on the controversial Flores 'hobbit' theory. Maciej, who has visited and photographed the site, is critical of the paucity of skeletal evidence, research methods and secretive policies adopted by researchers.
We began 2011 with discussion of 'The Demise of Academic Freedom,' initiated by Maciej. Our recent sessions have been capped by an hour in the cafe below our meeting rooms in the Writers' Centre and out of those conversations there emerged a desire to meet more often than every two months. As a result we have weekly after-work meetings of between four and seven discussants, the latter part of the session being held in the cafe, where collegial exchange becomes more relaxed. Our next move is to ask members to formalise their situation by joining ISAA
